One of the bigger impairments to our economic recovery is the perilous status of many local and state governments. Underfunded health plans, pensions, and debt burdens involve the word “trillion.” Obama delayed their wake-up call with federal handouts. Hopefully those days and Obama’s are over. Temporary props at the expense of accountability, living within our means, and prudence is seduction, not leadership.  Some of our favorite people – police officers, teachers, and firefighters – have been extraordinarily greedy in carving out unrealistic pension and health plans. That greed is about to come home.  Economic laws apply to government as surely as anyone else, it’s just that government can avoid consequences a little longer.  That delay is over and you can look for state and municipal workers to begin poor mouthing.  Citizens with empty pockets should not buy the rap, the guilt, or a tax funded rescue plan.
