Our Epicurean Culture (7-4-12)
Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on our epicurean culture...
A guy named Epicurus was one of the great Greek philosophers. Great in influence, but not necessarily in wisdom. It was his take that pleasure was the highest good. Boy has his philosophy taken hold in America. A dedication to feeling good is our number one addiction and serves as the foundation of a host of other addictions. Epicureans are devoted to their own pleasures, but anyone whose spent time around the rich and famous knows how that works out. The greatest wise man in recorded history, Solomon, offered different advice. In his book of the Bible, Ecclesiastes, he suggested man’s purpose boils down to four things – worshipping and obeying God, loving others, working, and celebrating life. He should know. Solomon had it all, saw it all, and did it all. His conclusion was that most of man’s pursuits were simple vanities. Pleasure, as a soul priority, does not predict a happy ending. Solomon points to a better way.
