Child Abuse Comes In Many Forms

Child abuse is one of the most rampant and under reported social problems in twenty-first century America.  Though physical brutality and sexual exploitation rightfully capture our attentions, there are many other abuses hiding behind political correctness and escaping responsible scrutiny and action.  

Remember Asheville’s topless street party?  In that teens participated and children observed sexual performances, at least one guy I know thinks everyone there, including the police, abetted child abuse.

Having children we can’t care for is an overlooked form of child abuse.  Half the mothers under thirty now give birth out of wedlock.  Absentee fathers and repeat mothers without means of support are exploiters, not victims.   

Objective comparisons to international standards illuminates our public education failings.  Running this system as a political and financial enterprise is more about serving adults than children.  Drop-out rates and graduate skill deficits further affirm the abuse.

Political seduction of our young through hollow messages of something for nothing, entitlement over responsibility, and victimization as a lifestyle is predatory behavior.   We make people into pets for our benefit – not theirs.

We’re also into habitually sacrificing our children to the pretense of policing a corrupt world.  Politicians camouflaging military adventurism as “fighting for our freedom” merit rebuke, not reelection.  If killing our young for political vanities isn’t child abuse, what is?

In that heart disease, dietary diabetes, and many other health issues begin early, making your kid fat is child abuse.  Taking someone’s life with a gun is called murder.  Taking a child’s future with too many happy meals, sodas, and sweets is the same activity with slower acting weapons.  

We have fewer teens working today than at any point in our history.  We don’t need them or the fifty-million children we’ve aborted by choosing convenience over character.  It’s abusively easier to import an exploitable underclass than to nurture our own. 

Then there’s the debt burden we baby-boomers are downloading on our children and grandchildren.   Dumping debt is like dumping any toxic waste.  By the time the abuse is evident, the perpetrator has moved on.

Our young are not equipped to protect themselves and there’s no evidence we have the courage to do the job.  It’s easier to watch, whisper, or whine while our culture slides into darkness.  That failure of effort, example, maturity and love may be our biggest abuse – and call to action.
