Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on gun phobics…

The left’s anti-gun lobby has no shame. As usual, their idea of a solution to violence is to go after the tools, not the carpenter. Yes, I understand liberals are afraid of people who are armed. I’m afraid of drug dealers who corrupt our children, homosexuals who routinely practice unprotected sex resulting in horrifically harmful and expensive HIV infections, those who thinks it’s OK that we’ve aborted 55 million children, American drug users indifferent to the mass murders they’re funding in Mexico, a medical system that kills more people with legal drugs than dealers kill with illegal ones, and liberals who exploit the murder of 26 innocents as an opportunity to hysterically indulge their gun phobias. Broken families, a dismantled mental health system, hip-hop culture vultures, violent video games, and an abandoned sense of national morality don’t matter to the left.  It’s just easier to go after what you’re fearing than to go after what you’re doing.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on socialism obama style...

As 2012 comes to a close, it might be time for a little conservative reflection. This will, after all, be remembered as the year we gave President Obama a second chance to turn off our lights. Eight million conservative voters chose to stay home and let the “rescue me” crowd join with our nation’s socialists to renew PBO’s contract. Yep – there’s that word again – socialists. That’s what you are when you put government in charge of commerce with regulations and taxation policies. Watch Obama’s regulatory czars get rolling in coming months. How’s that a problem? Well, crony socialism is becoming this generation’s fix for crony capitalism. That means more equal misery for all as we abandon the liberating potentials of an honest free market system. ObamaCare, bank and industry bailouts, deficit spending, and intentionally swollen ranks of people depending on government are just the beginning. 2013 is going to be a hoot for conservatives. Those of you who didn’t vote have earned the adventure.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on a blessed Christmas…

Christmas means many things to many people.  For some its presents, family time, or just time out.  For others, it’s about Christ, spiritual connections, and good will toward men. Whatever Christmas means to you, it’s a good time to focus on a few priorities.  Holding the people you love a little closer is a no-brainer.  Holding your core values a little closer should be too.  Give yourself a Christmas present this year. Write a list of ten things you stand for.  Honesty, love, courage, maturity, liberty, civility, and responsibility might be examples.  Recommit yourself to keeping those values throughout the coming year.  In other words, stand for something you and others around you can count on.  It won’t be easy – being a good guy or lady never is.  But in a darkening world more devoted to dodging reality than addressing it, good people are going to become increasingly important.  Christmas is a time we’re tempted to give a lot of stuff to our loved ones. Giving them a better us may be the best gift of all.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on masked insensitivity…

Asheville, North Carolina enjoys a dubious reputation as a haven for liberal weirdness. It’s a target rich environment for reasoned observers – including a dedicated local Tea Party group. True to form, Asheville’s liberal weirdness is marketed as “normal”, while mainstream thinking is ridiculed as backwards. Have you noticed how those pursuing a path to self-destruction and dysfunction can always find a way to rationalize mischief?  Asheville’s Tea Party has made national news. It seems they’re holding a fund raiser with two assault rifles – poor timing, but additional criticisms are nonsense. The left is incensed at Tea Party insensitivity.  Really? The liberal media has trampled over one another to milk last week’s school shooting tragedy to the last drop. Gun phobic politicos have busted their teeth on microphones in a rushed call for gun control. How are these exploitations less sensitive than a Tea Party fundraiser? They aren’t – but they are exempt from scrutiny by masked media outlets.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on standing for something…

For a glimpse into one reason for a fast fading American Dream, look no further than a growing indifference to principle. The current tug-of-war between Congress and the White House offers a perfect example.  Conservative Republicans, and per this party’s stated principles there should be no other kind, are being roundly chastised for standing firm on their “no tax” pledge.  Republican opportunists are being praised for a willingness to “be flexible” and “put the needs of the country first.”  In other words, people willing to abandon their word are good and people standing for their word are bad.  How do you sustain a healthy culture on that kind of backwards thinking?  You can’t.  What you can do is play practical politics and keep kicking the can down the road until America falls off a real cliff.  Real Republicans should be congratulated for standing for something.  Political opportunists should not.  Besides, spending and entitlement expectations, not revenue, continue to be the driving problem.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on killing children…

Twenty murdered children.  It’s hard to imagine – even harder to explain.  The sun had not set on their last day before political opportunists started trying.  At the head of the pack were the gun phobics.  That’s understandable – it’s easy to blame a gun you can see over something harder to get your hands on – like insanity and evil.  You can bet both were a factor in this horrific event.  Don’t believe in evil?  Then you maybe haven’t looked into the eyes of a child molester or inner city drug dealer.  Are there things we can do to stop this kind of mayhem?  No, but we can slow it down.  More laws, gun control, and political chatter will not stop crazy and evil.  Healthy families, mature role models and spiritual grounding can.  There’s one more thing.  We all need to matter.  The killer found a bad way.  Cultures that emphasize good ways will always be safer than those like ours – where more and more mattering in dark ways is considered sophisticated, liberating, and progressive.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today's minute on drafting minorities...

In the face of humiliating losses, the Republican Party is being challenged to embrace minorities.  That this advice is coming mostly from liberals should be a sincerity clue.  In truth, the Republican Party should being doing exactly the opposite.  Instead of trying to draft black or Hispanic voters by pandering to their special interests, we should get serious about being the party of the common interests.  That means shaking off all special interests, including military adventurism and crony capitalism.  Chasing power by seducing voters guarantees a temporary seat on the throne, not a future for America.  Besides, black Americans are not going to flock to a truly conservative party.  The black culture has surrendered, almost in mass, to the idea of big government as (1) the key to security and (2) the best chance for reparations for past wrongs to their ancestors. Republicans need to get back to being Republicans – that’s a mission of principle, not color or purchased loyalty.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on turning left…

Have you noticed left-minded politicians like to talk a lot? That’s a good thing, because the more they talk, the deeper the hole they dig. It’s ironic that what many see as proof the left has permanently won America – Obama’s victory in spite of a dismal record – is actually more likely the high point of a dying political culture. Like most, it’s killing itself. An example is found with Detroit City Councilwoman JoAnn Watson.  By now you’ve heard how bad things are there. Years of socialism and corruption have bankrupted that city and its history of success.  It seems that Ms.  Watson thinks Obama should bail out Motor City and she’s made a request he do so. Why – because a super-majority of the city voted for him.  “Now you owe us” is Ms. Watson’s take.  That’s a perfect snapshot of why the left is doomed.  The loyalty of their mascots is skin deep.  When the left’s promises begin to get lost in reality, their key to the executive washroom will be too…

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on racial politics…

It’s hard to imagine Martin Luther King would be a happy guy today.  Race retains a front row seat in our growing cultural divide.  This mischief is championed by liberal media and the left.  Why?  Because it’s the only way to make sure minorities stay in their corner.  Witness the election.  Every poll was divided by race.  The Republican Party was vilified as being “full of old white guys” who lost because they were out of touch with “Hispanics” and “African-Americans.”  Notice who was constantly raising the race issue – it wasn’t conservatives.  In truth, the party of Lincoln is a lot closer to Martin Luther King’s vision of America than the party of the KKK.  Things haven’t really changed that much since Lincoln, it’s just Dems have a slicker marketing strategy.  Conservatives should not pander to any race – that’s racism.  We should remember Lincoln, step over liberal racial obsession, and remember melting pots are about blending, not separating.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on a chapstick culture…

Are you one of the millions using a petroleum based lip balm like chapstick? If so, you might have noticed that the more you use the product, the more you need to use the product.  That petroleum initially soothes your lips, but it then dries them out so you need another application.  That’s precisely the way the left is seducing otherwise good people to buy the lie of big government.  Getting something “free” is soothing and comforting at first.  But that makes you want more and so your dependency on your benefactor grows.  Instead of chapped lips, we end up with chapped brains.  Anytime someone is selling you an opportunity without accountability, they are flim-flaming you.  There simply aren’t any exceptions.  Nature doesn’t give handouts.  You have to earn what you get – that’s how nature pushes us to grow.  Democrats don’t want you to grow – they want you to be a dependent mascot.  That helps them to grow.  That your brain gets chapped and shrunken in the process, is, well, evidently not their concern…

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on a reflecting elephant…

Rightfully so, Republican power brokers are busy scratching their heads and wondering what went wrong. If things go as they have in the past, the lead elephants will guess at what they think will tickle our fancy and go there. That’s why Republicans have a well deserved reputation as been unable to stand for anything. The worst thing that could happen would be for the GOP to decide America’s entitlement addicts are too numerous.  And that we can’t win unless we do like Dems who rob Peter to pay a Paul who will vote for us.  We have borrowed ourselves into a hole in America. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. What happens when all the promises stop flowing and start dripping? Americans will again be desperate for the dream that once helped us feed ourselves.  The left is soon to learn that purchased loyalty is always short lived. Principles will last - especially those that will help people stand on their own two feet when Uncle Sam lets them down.  That time’s coming – sooner rather than later.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on the real cliff…

Societies get precisely the government they earn. America’s not an exception. Countries, like people, are only special if they act special. There was a time when that was true for America, but our beacon of liberty, opportunity, and responsibility is dimming. There’s nothing special about addiction to entitlement, responsibility avoidance, and dishonesty. One manifestation of our loss of character and maturity is debt. The cliff coming in January is a pothole. The real cliff is 80 trillion in unfunded Medicare and social security promises backed by IOU’s. All the money contributed this year was spent this year. All the past money collected is gone.  Unless we borrow it or raise taxes, there is nothing to support those IOU’s. To give you an idea of how bad this is, taking the annual income of all the individuals and corporations in America will not cover what’s owed. Don’t worry about ice cubes in January. It’s the iceberg a few years ahead that’s going to do great and unavoidable harm.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on an important Arab voice…

Abdulateef is a retired Saudi Navy Commodore, writer, and frequent contributor to Middle-East news outlets. He’s a very smart gentleman with an honest voice. By now you’re very familiar with the position that most everything wrong in the Arab world can be tracked to one source – Israel. This assumption of permanent victim status mirrors what racist activists are selling black Americans – and with the same outcome. Abdulateef has the character to say that the Arab reality belongs in the hands of Arabs. He correctly points out that the life expectancy and freedom of Palestinians living in Israel is far greater than in most Arab countries. Bet you didn’t know the nations of Islam criticizing Israeli actions against Gaza and the West Bank refuse to allow Palestinians to immigrate to their countries. In a culture war, it doesn’t work to have your pawns free to move out of harm’s way. Admirably, Abdulateef is challenging his peers to play a smarter game.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on arguing with the left…

One of the quickest ways to know you’re dealing with a political mascot versus a thinking person is anger. People who are running off habit and servitude get mad when their comfort zone is challenged. The minute a discussion shifts into a right-wrong, good-bad, or win-lose debate, you know Elvis has left the building and you might as well too. Remember our reelected President and Vice-president during the debates?  With the exception of the first debate, they were repeatedly heralded as victors per their model of anger, mockery, and emotionally driven rhetoric. Honesty, dignity, and maturity were minimal considerations for most liberal media outlets. That most media outlets are liberal helps explain Round Two of an Obama nation.  You and I should not be so casual about the things that matter. And the fact we have just reelected an angry President who’s mastered projecting the look of death should be cause for concern, not comfort.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on saving the Republican party…

Yes Mr. and Mrs. Democrat, the stand for nothing Republican Party is going through an identity crisis. Celebrate while you can. When the bill comes due for the empty promises your party has made, there are going to be a lot of mad mascots.  That doesn’t mean things will swing back to the right. That depends on whether Republicans start behaving like Republicans or mini-me Democrats.  That requires separating political conservatism from moral and social conservatism. There’s a difference. Each is important, but it is in political conservatism we find unity potential. Political conservatism is simple – it centers on a dedication to small government, being careful with other people’s money, and America’s historical success equation.  What’s that? Liberty, opportunity, and responsibility hitched to the same wagon.  Want to save the GOP? Stop trying to feed America’s entitlement needs and start standing for something that will help us feed ourselves.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on just deserts…

For awhile it was looking tough for Twinkie fans. Media outlets were reporting the imminent demise of Hostess bakery. In case you aren’t familiar with their tasty treat, it’s a handy cream filled cake widely rumored to have a 100-year shelf life.  Some consider Twinkies the perfect food for emergency stock piles in that they will stay fresh longer than you do. The obituary is premature. Management greed and union absurdity hasn’t yet finished them off. We understand the harm of overcompensating execs, but why are unions a problem for Twinkies? Because union drivers can deliver Twinkies or bread, but not both. Union truck loaders can load Twinkies or bread, but not both. And truck drivers are not allowed to load either one. Now you know why Twinkies last 100 years. It takes that long to get them delivered.  That also helps explain the hurricane recovery delays.  Unions – organized crime by political means.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on Thanksgiving…

In the aftermath of a disappointing election, conservatives are finding giving thanks to be a little tougher.  Gratitude is more important than ever. Conservatives, per the way their brain is wired, are naturally geared to fixing things and intercepting problems before they happen. If we’re not careful, that’s just one step away from becoming a negative or cynical person. This “four more years of an Obama nation” Thanksgiving is a perfect time to start practicing the 3 to 1 rule.  Put a positive and a negative together and the negative will win.  Two positives will just manage to neutralize a negative. It takes about a 3 to 1 ratio of good to bad to leave us feeling good. Over the course of your day, push your mind to go there. That gives you room to deal with the negatives – like Obama – but reserves most of your energy for the good stuff.  That thanks will help you find your inner smile and nothing makes liberals more unhappy than a smiling conservative.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on cliff dwellers…

Its true America is racing toward a cliff. That’s been true since we decided to make war with borrowed dollars, create benefits with borrowed dollars, and pay for borrowed dollars with more borrowed dollars. When did America become immune from reality and natural law? For a view into Washington’s dysfunction, remember this cliff was put in place by Congress in 2011 as a bi-partisan debt deal. It was heralded as a good thing.  Postponement is about avoidance of accountability. That’s never good.  As individuals, we’re not duty bound to jump or pretend everything’s peachy. Now is a great time to live within our means, pay off debt, and filter our days through maturity, responsibility, and hard work. It’s not about preparing for doom so much as taking charge of our own destiny. Let the “rescue me” cliff dwellers play follow the leader.  Conservatives are advised to keep heads, hearts, bodies, and spirits firmly grounded in reality.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on fixing the elephant…

The Republican Party is broken, but that’s not why the left won or a reason to throw the elephant out with the bathwater.  Improvements begin with remembering the left is wrong and becoming like them is thus not an answer.  If they’re right, why have a Republican Party?  The immorality, entitlement, dependency, and nanny state policies of the left assure they’ll hit a wall.  The messages of small government, personal accountability, and budgetary reason will make sense as the left’s policies implode.  Anyone who thinks a political party can build a future on such enlightened practices as promising everything to everyone, spending money that doesn’t exist, and aborting 55 million children is in for a rude awakening.  When that happens, the stand for nothing Republican Party needs to have a real message people can count on.  Remember – in the face of chaos, people naturally become more conservative.  Irrelevance or surrender are not the only options for the Republican Party.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on blaming Romney…

Obama’s victory had barely been declared before conservative commentators started attacking his opponent. Emails like, “Eight Ways Romney Blew It,” were pimped with lots of make-up and very little substance. Ironically, liberals who had viciously attacked Romney for months became conciliatory. That’s like a Mafia hit man attending the funeral of his victim. The fact is Romney worked his fanny off in this election.  He was up against decidedly biased liberal media, a dependency trained culture, a dysfunctional party, and a left-wing propaganda machine with no boundaries and he still came close to winning.  Romney was mature, persistent, and Presidential in a tough arena.  One thing you can bet on – few of Romney’s critics have run for office.  Anyone who has would know better.  This gentleman deserves praise, not blame.  He wasn’t perfect, but who would have done better?  Conservatives who didn’t bother to vote carry the real weight for four more years of an Obama nation.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on who won…

At the conclusion of WW I, a French leader suggested the Allies misguided armistice plan didn’t conclude the war – it merely postponed it for twenty-years. Hitler was about a week shy of that date when he attacked Poland and triggered WW II. Obama’s win against Romney last week was not really a victory. It was a postponement of accountability and that’s one of the reasons he won.  Like a hypnotist, Obama and his leftist colleagues have really only one message – “we can give you opportunity without responsibility.”  You can fool around and someone else will pay for your birth control or abortion.  You can avoid carrying your own weight and someone will feed you.  You can live beyond your means and someone will pick up your debt. It’s all a lie, but it recruits mascots. Mankind’s majority has always chosen security over liberty – even when that security is an illusion.  Such is the case with Obama’s election success.  He sold a product he can’t deliver.  The bill we’ll have to pay anyway will be educational.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on psykido…

Action film star Steven Seagal does not fight fair. Most martial arts, including boxing and karate, are built on force meeting force. The fastest, strongest, toughest, or best guy usually wins, but not without some pain of his own. It’s like two guys with Glocks shooting it out. The one who dies first also leaves a few holes in his adversary. Seagal is an expert in the alternative fighting art of Aikido. Unlike karate, boxing, or “glocking,” Aikido uses the other guy’s force to win.  Seagal steps aside and helps his adversary run into a wall.  In the face of this election, conservatives should consider Psykido.  The left is racing toward a wall.  Too many promises, too few resources, and too many dependent takers assure a crash. Stepping out of the way and focusing on things we can control – like our own values, productivity, and creativity – is the best way to survive round two with Obama and his soon to be disappointed and angry mascots.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on a new day…

For conservatives yesterday’s election was a disappointment. A failed president was given a pass and a chance to repeat his errors.  The liberal media was again successful in transplanting their bias into a majority of America’s brains. The celebration will be about as brief as a party fueled with poisoned moonshine.  Special interests groups, the self-serving, and others dedicated to milking the American Dream are in for their own disappointment.  A dry well is incapable of sustaining even those who’ve pushed to the front of the line.  The mismatch between Obama’s confidence and his skills will become increasingly apparent. The anger he revealed during the debates gave a glimpse into desperation.  Knowing how to seduce voters is not the same thing as knowing how to lead.  Obama’s supporters don’t know that, but he does, and we all will soon.  In the mean time conservatives, press on – reality remains firmly on your side.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on how it will be OK…

Tomorrow’s a big day. America will pick a new president. Calling the outcome amidst the hype, misinformation, and deception is impossible. Still, the liberal media’s lost credibility, Obama’s angry pattern of failure, and his opponent’s hard work and steady hand predicts a Romney victory. By most conservative measurements, that would be a good thing. But in that our world is in the hands of higher authority, it will be OK either way. Yes, an Obama win will lead to further loss of economic, military, and world influence. It also predicts hard times, division, and the anxieties associated with a rudderless ship. It can be well argued that our drift from morality and American values has earned us a trip to the woodshed. If that be our destiny, it’s important to remember that God promises to keep an angel in front of the faithful.  Conservative thinkers anchored to reality, reason, responsibility and right will continue to thrive – angels matter more than presidents.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on conservative voters…

By self-report, conservatives are the largest voting block in America.  Unfortunately, true conservatism has been so distorted that its real meaning has been lost.  That’s resulted in much political confusion and misplaced unity.  Worse, it’s discouraged conservatives from voting.  We need to do better this time.  If you’re planning to vote, talk to a conservative friend.  If you’re not, talk to yourself.  The left has “feel good” politics on their side.  That’s fun.  We have reality on our side.  That’s rewarding, but not always fun.  Romney’s not a perfect conservative candidate.  He’s a mature realist with demonstrated leadership skills, spiritual values and conservative leanings.  Conservatism centers on reality, reason, responsibility and right.  Compared to his opponent, Romney is steak to a hotdog.  Conservatives who vote, or don’t, will determine what we eat for the next four years.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on Obamanesia…

President Obama is angry.  He’s losing and that shouldn’t happen to the savior of the world.  One of his counterattacks centers on colorfully claiming his opponent has “Romnesia.”  Most crazy people similarly think everyone else is crazy.  May we suggest the possibility of “Obamanesia?”  Three key focal points in this election – government spending, healthcare, and leadership – offer evidence.  Senator Obama in 2006 opposed increasing the debt limit – in 2008 President Obama insisted on it.  In 2008 he opposed Hillary Clinton’s plan to force taxpayers to buy health insurance – he 2009 he forced it down our throats.  In 2009 he said he should be a one term president if he couldn’t have things “done” in three years – now, suddenly, he’s rethought his importance and decided to run again.  Obama flip-flops and failures are legion.  Obamanesia makes Obama and fellow liberals forget.  Conservative thinkers, thankfully, have immunity.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on racial condescension…

One way the left reveals its insincerity is through fake concern for black Americans. Under the watch of the Democratic Party, the black culture has been decimated.  Poverty, unemployment, drop-out, incarceration, and family fragmentation are soaring as blacks remain mascots to the political left.  Nowhere is that loyalty more suspect and contradictory than in the universal support for Obama.  His abysmal job record does not matter.  Nor does his support for abortion, homosexual marriage, and illegal immigration – issues black Americans are against.  What does seem to matter is shared skin color and PBO’s reliable promise of something for nothing.  Race relation advocates are correct that voting against a candidate on the basis of color is racism.  So is voting for someone on the basis of color.  Ignoring this misguided foundation for black voter loyalty is a mistake – for any color of American.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on censoring You-Tube…

Obama’s Obabble team committed a major mistake in attempting to cover up failure in Benghazi.  That error centers on denying five dollar an hour security in one of the most dangerous places on earth.  That same week they proudly unveiled a hundred thousand dollar embassy electric car charging station in one of the safest places on earth – Vienna.  PBO and friends then had the gentleman who made the now famous anti-Muslim You-Tube video hauled in for questioning.  The L.A. Sheriff’s Department was duped into doing Big O’s bidding.  Reminds me of the time I was giving a talk at a Federal building and instructed to park in space X.  I inadvertently parked in space A-X - the reaction by the U.S. Marshal who used that space wasn’t pretty.  Nor was Washington’s equally heavy handed effort to twist You-Tube into removing the video in question.  They didn’t, but we’ve been given further lessons on why we should remove Obama.

Depending on your point of view, this hasn’t exactly been one of Obama’s best weeks.  Round two of his angry little boy debate routine served him more poorly than liberal pundits would have us believe.  There’s a big difference in angry and pouty and strong and presidential.  The Obama and Obiden “Obabble team” continues to be their worst enemy in revealing a lack of sincerity.  Speaking of worst enemies, have you seen the list of world leaders endorsing Obama?  It includes stellar characters like Hugo Chavez, Castro, Vladimir Putin, and the Muslim Brotherhood.  Those kinds of references are like having a pedophile endorsing a daycare center.  Dictators, communists, my way or the hi-way radicals, and big government socialists are not supporting Obama because they wish us well – just the opposite.  PBO’s despotic endorsers recognize Obama as a peer and friend.  Come November, we should break their little hearts.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on opinionism…

Anyone who’s studied the mind and behavior of our President has heard the term “narcissism.”  A narcissist is a person who is vain, self-absorbed, usually smarter than average, entitled, and with a sense of right and wrong based on what they can get away with – not what’s right, wrong – or true.  Sound familiar?  During the first debate we got the flat Obama.  During the second debate we got the fired up “hear me roar” Obama – easy roles for the chameleon Obama.  A close relative of the narcissist is the opinionist.  These folks are growing faster in number than monsters on a zombie walk.  Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel exposed these charlatans by interviewing folks four hours before the last debate and seeking opinions by pretending it had been held the night before.  The responders reacted in detail to an event that had not yet happened. Unlike Obama narcissism, opinionionism can be cured.  Hush unless you’ve done your homework.

Hi, I'm Dr. Carl Mumpower, The Candid Conservative, with today’s minute on two against one…

Tuesday’s debate was a fist fight.  Did you notice it was two against one? CNN moderator Cindy Crowley tag teamed with Obama all night long.  In the first debate Jim Lehrer interrupted Romney fifteen times and Obama five.  This time it was twenty-eight to nine.  It wasn’t because Romney needed the boundaries – the candidates were evenly matched in oversteps.  Her bias for the liberal candidate was evident. She cut-off Romney counter-responses, spoke up for Obama, changed the course of discussion during bumpy moments for Obama, and demeaned Romney on several occasions.  Though Obama babbled on, turned his back to Romney, behaved angrily, and tap danced away from uncomfortable questions, he got a free pass from Crowley.  Two against one is tough odds, yet Romney managed to be the only adult in the room acting like a President.   Not easy when you’re faced with an angry little boy and a mom playing favorites…

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on Team Obabble…

This minute was birthed before the second Presidential debate.  It’s intended to offer a prediction.  No matter how much smoother, engaged, or assertive Obama becomes during the Tuesday debate, he will still be dependent on babbling as campaign strategy.  Vietnam provided a firsthand exposure to the well worn saying, “If you can't impress them with the facts, dazzle them with BS.”  The Obama and OBiden team didn’t serve in Vietnam, but they sure have bought into this information management strategy. Ask either of these guys a question and take away their notes or teleprompter and the dazzle dance begins.  It’s sort of like that old attorney joke – “If the facts are on your side, pound on the facts, if not, then pound on the table.”  Team Obabble does just that – they use sound bites, fuzzy math, and emotional oratory to dodge the facts.  It’s easy to understand why – the truth is very rarely on their side.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

If you caught the V-P debate, you had a window seat to the coming election and the stark contrast between the candidates. One side, represented by Joe Biden, demonstrated a loyalty to emotional rhetoric, arrogance, anger, deception, and mockery of the opposition. The other, represented by Paul Ryan, demonstrated a commitment to reason, poise, maturity, reality, and consideration of the opposition. Though liberal media outlets would like to claim Biden won the debate, that would be true only if bullying and childishness were the criteria. If maturity, the ability to think on your feet, composure, courage, and knowledge were considerations, Paul Ryan absolutely destroyed his opponent. Perhaps the most revealing moment of the debate was Biden’s unethical attempt to blame the intelligence community for his administration’s deadly failure in Benghazi. The V-P debate crystallized the Romney-Ryan team’s model and potential.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

For a glimpse into the sophisticated workings of the Federal government, look a little deeper into the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Ever wondered how their unemployment stat is created?  You know – the one that suddenly dropped to 7.8%.  For a moment forget that our economy would have to be on steroids to drop that far in one month.  More realistically our economy is on life-support – trillions of green newly minted dollar forms of life support.  The real eye opener is that our unemployment number comes not out of sophisticated formulas and data banks – it comes from a survey by census workers, most of whom ask their questions over the phone.  Almost all of this fantastic improvement Obama would like us to believe reflects teen jobs, part-time jobs, pretend jobs, and people giving up on jobs.  The most recent manipulated unemployment number should be used for only one purpose – making sure on election day, Obama loses his job too.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

It’s not nice to take pleasure in the hardship of others.  Barney Frank provides an opportunity to practice this piece of Christian charity.  Have you seen him lately? He looks like the after action attic shot of the Picture of Dorian Gray. His vocal cords remain in good shape though. He’s again banging on the TEA party for extremism. Yes Barney, we understand.  Advocating for living within our means, constraining government and liberating people, and keeping money we earn in our own pockets is certainly extreme. Mortgaging our children’s future with deficit spending, making people dependent on politicians and influencing a cushy Fanny Mae job for your boy toy is a better model.  For the same reason crooks hate the police, people like Barney Frank hate the TEA party. Barney, you’re addicted to your own sense of entitlement and dysfunctional leadership model. A cup of TEA might be a good antidote to what ails you.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

You don’t have to be a genius to recognize our world is growing darker.  That comes as no surprise to those operating from a Christian value system.  You know, the one upon which our systems of governance, education, medicine, industry, morals, and about everything else were formed.  The handbook for the Christian faith, the Bible, is pretty clear about how things go when we step away from God’s commandments and toward the seven deadly sins.  That one sentence pretty well defines today’s world culture.  It’s discouraging to note we probably can’t stop that slide, but that should not translate into despair.  In God’s world opportunity always, and I repeat that, always hides amidst misery.  Add the fact that evil brightens the light with its darkness, and there are plenty of moments ahead to make a difference and experience a rich life.  Especially if you’re working to be one of those points of light giving grief to the darkness.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

The Nations of Islam are unhappy.  Without noticeable exception, their political, media, and religious outlets are calling for the heads of Americans daring to insult Mohammed and Muslims.  Case in point, the film The Innocence of Muslims that supposedly sparked violence and outrage throughout the innocent Muslim world.  Funny how it’s OK for Muslims to deride Christian “infidels,” but a cartoon portrayal of one of their prophets triggers calls for decapitations.  Can it be the Muslim world can dish it out but not take it?  One of the clearest signs of extremism, moral corruption, and narcissism is the need to silence opposing voices.  You may have noticed Muslims and liberals have that in common.  Both like the concept of free speech as long as it opens the door to things they want to hear.  Speaking out against Islamist and liberal extremism can be dangerous – not speaking out against it – even more so.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s extra minute…

The Wednesday night debate has put fresh wind under the wings of Presidential contender Mitt Romney. It clipped some feathers from his liberal opponent. Obama revealed his character in some telling ways – most especially his denial system.  All addicts practice denial. That’s why, without interdiction, addictions predictably get worse. Obama is addicted to the fantasy effectiveness of his liberal leadership model. Though his outcomes have minimally lived up to his promises, he still believes he’s on the right track. His behavior mirrors that of someone shouting at a deaf person and believing that shouting longer or louder will finally get them heard. Obama demonstrated his denial by going off on tangents, embracing out-of-context talking points, and repeatedly using decoy issues to dodge real ones. To his credit, Romney confronted Obama.  It didn’t penetrate Obama’s brain for the same reason confronting drunks doesn’t work either.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

Vice-President Joe Biden and Air Force Two just graced Asheville, NC. Joe’s a masterful apologist for the left and the “promise anything for power” practices of the Democratic Party.  He did a great job of fluffing up the faithful on the ultra-liberal campus of the University of North Carolina at Asheville.  He was well received – political seducers saying what people want to hear usually are.  There were a few conservative protestors.  Not that Joe got to see them.  His security tem and the campus police were concerned about the protestors.  Though most were students, they were determined to be high risk and moved across campus from the actual event into what the authorities called “a free speech zone.”  Protestor isolation in a liberal university?  Sure.  Free speech is fine just as long as the left gets to hear what they want to hear. Shame on Joe, his security team, and liberal pretenders at UNC-A.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

Paul Ryan recently did a bold thing.  He imitated Mitt Romney’s courageous presentation to a hostile NAACP crowd with a speech to a hostile crowd of his own.  If you’re a member of the AARP, you might be interested to know that you’ve joined one of the most socialistic special interest groups in America.  Their mission of looking out for the aging population was long ago corrupted into pushing a liberal agenda.  Did you know that the AARP advocated ObamaCare, makes mega-millions marketing healthcare, and that 97% of their board of directors contribute to democrat candidates?  Paul Ryan still went into that den of donkeys and didn’t duck – not on Medicare’s insolvency or anything else.  Would you believe on several occasions he was even cheered?  Congratulations on being a politician of courage Rep. Ryan.  Conservative AARP members would do well to mirror your boldness and take action of their own by reconsidering their membership.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

The voices declaring the Presidential election is all but in the bag for Obama are premature and, more importantly, wrong.  While it’s true polls are showing PBO and company have stepped in front of the Romney-Ryan team, the month ahead is where the rubber meets the road.  Most mainstream media outlets continue to give Obama a pass on glaringly incompetent leadership.  It’s working, for now, but it’s important to remember that very few Americans truly trust the media.  As we come closer to a point of making a real decision, media credibility and Obama’s abysmal record will come much more clearly into focus.  The debates will be important and Romney will have a much improved and sharpened message to share.  Obama can’t get any sharper on a poor performance record, failed recovery, and discredited leadership model.  Conservatives and other Romney supporters should not forget that the darkest hour is just before dawn.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on a policy of failure…

Anyone who studies the foreign policy record of our current President must be getting a kick out of liberal claims Romney is weak on foreign policy.  If that skill set is measured by success, it would be next to impossible to be worse than PBO on foreign affairs.  Giving the green light to Seal Team Six to take out Bin Laden doesn’t count.  What else might he have done?  What does count is his persisting pandering to the Nations of Islam while we’re hated more than ever.  His intervention in a Libya that just killed four of our embassy staff.  His much heralded Egyptian spring that now has the bad guys in charge.  He walked away from Iraq and they’re falling into the arms of Iran.  Afghanistan?  We’ve ceased operations with our allies because they’re killing our soldiers faster than the enemy.  Liberals are still shocked that their man has been such a disappointment.  That’s why they keep pretending his manure is our fertilizer.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute on turning green into red…

America is in the midst of a power struggle between two fundamentally different approaches to our future. One’s characterized by an emphasis on consumption, manipulation of our currency, and expanded dependence on government.  The other defined by production, living within our means, and individual liberty and responsibility.  The proof of our conversion to the first approach is revealed in surveys consistently saying we want maximum benefits, salaries, and prosperity and minimal intrusions, taxes, and responsibilities.  Politicians know their future is tied to sustaining that fantasy.  The result is a government that spends and prints money we don’t really have and avoids responsible budgeting at every turn.  Climbing a hill is hard.  Rolling downhill is easy – until you hit the tree at the bottom.  A day of reckoning is coming that will push producing, saving, and responsibility back into style.  Smart conservatives are getting a head start.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

Contrary to the manufactured mass media image of the Republican Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney is neither a fool nor a fake. He proved such in his recent off-camera comments about the growing dependence of so many Americans on Uncle Sam. He’s right, and his candor is admirable. It’s rare for anyone to talk about accountability and responsibility in today’s America. More and more people are searching for a special deal, entitlement opportunity, or license to be a victim. Heck, forty-five percent of our country’s Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans are seeking some sort of disability status.  If the best of us are taking a dependent position what about the rest? Almost fifty-million people are on food stamps. We’re being sold a scam confusing government dependency with opportunity.  Conservatives should resist, not despair.  In America’s long and prosperous history, good and noble people have never been the majority.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney continues to get beat up by persistent media bias. One of this week’s best examples centers on the 9-11 attacks on our embassies. Funny how Muslim extremists get to kill people, blow things up and burn things down while Christian “extremists” go to church and Tea Party meetings. Romney criticized the President for apologizing to the guys destroying our people and our stuff. Immediately, the liberal media jumped on him for insensitivity, rigidity, and inflammatory language. Romney is a candid administrator, not a political performer.  That’s what we need in the White House. Probably the clearest bias centers on the left’s treatment of the Mormon faith. Mormons are fair game for liberal voices who say things that would get their heads chopped off if Mormons behaved like Muslims.  That double standard affirms Romney and Mormons – and reveals the hypocrisy of the left and the increasingly violent nations of Islam.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute...

You may have noticed that Islamic extremists and soccer fans are fiercely loyal. Daring to mock the other guy’s team or, in the case of Islamists, the other guy’s prophet can get you in deep poopoo – quickly. In the case of soccer fans, they beat you up or trample you if you get on the bottom side of a game riot. In the case of Islamists, they torture you, shoot you, rocket you, set you on fire, cut off your head, and for that extra little touch of religious enthusiasm, sodomize you. In Libya, the country the west rescued from Moammar Gadhafi, a bunch of Islam’s finest thought 9-11 was a good time to pull a mini-me 9-11. No planes this time, but a large group of fans of Islam had a jolly good time murdering four of our embassy people. Witnesses variously say that our diplomat was sexually abused before or after he was killed. Either way, Islam has a strange approach to recruiting new fans.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

If there’s one skill set the Democratic Party and their political mascots have perfected, it’s appealing to emotion over reason. The number of Americans who buy into classic liberal fantasies like there’s such a thing as something for nothing; political parties are about people not power; and government is a reliable source of protection is amazing. There’s no evidence of truth or realism to any of these attractive fantasies, and that’s why Democrats persistently rely on an emotional appeal.  Though it finds no traction in reason, it’s fun and attractive.  Conservatism isn’t.  There’s nothing sexy about the challenges of managing life and America well.  All that’s hard work.  But that’s nature’s message – life’s not a fantasy and it’s not easy.  Conservatives know that surviving and thriving in the real world requires a dedication to nature’s truths – not political bed time stories.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

Well at first it appeared the Democratic Party had finally come out of the closet and ended all pretense there’s a higher authority than government. All reference to God was removed from the party platform. That’s was a good thing, because anyone paying attention noted the insincerity of this party’s spiritual claims long ago. It’s not that the Democratic platform removed worship – they just affirmed what they do worship – government, entitlement, and the promise of something for nothing. With a lot of behind-the-scenes wrangling and boos and hisses, God was reintroduced into their platform.  Whether worshiping things on earth or a God in heaven, a leap of faith is required. Separation of church and state is about keeping government from intruding on religious liberties, not replacing our traditional Christian heritage with an idol named Uncle Sam. The Dem’s “God’s out – God’s in” maneuver reveals remarkable insincerity.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute...

For a short course in the contrast between Republicans and Democrats, consider the following.  The last four letters in the word “American” are “I can.”  Those are also the last four letters in the word “Republican.”  It’s pure coincidence the last letters in the word “Democrat” spell “Rat.”  Democrats like to pretend they care about nature, but their indifference to reality marks an indifference to the core message of nature.  Republicans – real ones – are all about reality.  Heck, the mission and definition of “conservative” is “to preserve.”  When you think “conservative”, think about someone trying to preserve America by embracing nature’s call to live in reality.  For a Biblical explanation of why we use the terms left and right to describe liberals and conservatives consider Solomon’s wisdom in Ecclesiastes 10:2 – “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.”  Celebrate conservatives - we’ve got Clint and Solomon on our side.

Hi, this is TheCandidConservative with today’s minute…

The hype and hoopla of the party conventions is over. Perhaps this year’s biggest real convention story was the media pass the Democrats got for their extremism. The left’s been very successful in using that word to attack what, until recently, had been widely recognized as main stream values. In today’s upside down world if you’re not into genocide masquerading as choice, stealing masquerading as sharing the wealth, and self-destructive narcissism masquerading as freedom, then you’re the extremist. By that definition conservatives, per their interest in reality, reason, responsibility, and right are really radical. So be it. One of those radicals, Clint Eastwood, had some special convention moments speaking to an empty “Obama” chair. Not a bad guy to have on the side of conservative America. The Democrats have had fun beating Clint up.  We can understand why the side championed by Pee Wee Herman might be a little upset.
